Dual Robot Trimming
February 2011 saw the completion of Geku Automation's latest robotic turnkey cell for a major tier one automotive supplier.
The cell consists of two ABB 1600's sitting side by side trimming various automotive components from a formed sheet. Using ABB's multimove technology the robots work in parallel safely, allowing programming and operation from a single control and pendant.
An operator loads a six immpression sheet onto the specially designed jigs, the excess TPO is vacuumed and the parts clamped to guarantee complete accuracy during the trimming process. Once the cycle initiate button is pressed the parts are indexed to the robots on an automatic turntable. The operator can now load side two while trimming takes place, this allows constant production.
The cell was programmed using ABB's robot studio software, the trim lines were provided by way of 3D Cad data and the neccessary program paths created to a high level of accuracy.
The robot end of arm tooling consists of a small motor rotating a round blade as the robot moves around the componants.
Key Benefits:
- High accuracy only achievable using automation
- Fast cycle
- Automated application remove all previous health and safety risks
