Laser Welding

Geku Automation installed a robotic laser welding cell at a Yorkshire based plastics manufacturer. The Automation cell consists of an ABB IRB4400 robot mounted on a plinth in front of a servo controlled indexing table.

An operator is required to enter the specially design safety enclosure and load the componant ready for welding, then index the table to the robot.

The laser, mounted as end of arm tooling on the robot, fuses the plastic together by welding through the clear panel and onto the darker coloured panel at the rear. A pressure regulated cylinder is applied to the componant during the weld for support.

Once the robot has finished the cycle the table is indexed and an operator can then enter the cell.

Key Benifits:
  • Hazardous operation
  • Extremely high accuracies required
  • Multiple componants
