Plastic Badge Printing

Cornwall based plastic badge manufacturer, Characteristix ltd, have boosted there manufacturing performance by 100% following the installation of a fully automatic Geku production cell.

The cell combines a Geku cartesian robot and an ABB IRB140 6-axis robot. The 3 axis cartesian demoulds a cage from a krauss maffei injection moulding machine and places on a print fixture. A transfer image is then placed onto the cage and shuttled under a pnuematic printing press. The robot then peels off the excess paper. The ABB robot then takes the finished cage and places into a holding fixture, the wrist then rotates to expose a cutting tool which snips approximatly 30 peices from within the cage.

Once the parts have been cut, they fall through the fixturing into a waiting box on a conveyor, the robot counts every part and performs an index when full. Overall cycle time for this operation is 18-20 seconds.

Please press the PLAY BUTTON to see the system in action.

Key Benefits:
  • Minimised down time
  • Lights out operation
  • Automation replaces labourious task
  • Improved accuracies via robotic placing of the image transfer
