Sand Core Drilling

Geku have design and installed an automatic drilling system into a foundry in the West Midlands.

The system uses a Kuka KR16 robot to pick sand castings from two pneumatic shuttle tables and presented to static automatic drill.

The castings are drilled to a depth of 1400mm using a masonry 3.5mm drill bit

Due to the product variants the robot controller identifies the correct part via binary connections on the fixturing.

Please press the PLAY BUTTON to see the system in action.

Key Benefits:
  • Drill depth and accuracy only possible with a robot
  • Hazardous and labour intensive manually
  • Reduction in cycle time
