Dashboard Removal

Geku have installed two fully automated machine tending systems into a major automotive supplier based in Hartlip, Kent.

Each cell features an ABB 6600 industrial robot demoulding dashboards from a 2700 ton Husky injection moulding machine. Prior to demould the robot picks a mesh insert from a servo driven indexing table, the airbag mesh is then inserted into the injection moulding tool after removal of the dash. Post demould, the part is offered to a Keyence vision system to confirm correct positioning of the mesh. The robot presents the part to a label applicator before being placed on a conveyor and indexed out of the cell.

The cell also features a fully automatic tool change system using the Geku designed 'quick change' end of arm tooling to minimise downtime for the customer when a product change is required.

Key Benefits:

  • Accurate insert of airbag mesh into component using vision inspection
  • Consistent fast cycle time
  • Minimal mould interruption time
  • Improvement on health and safety using automation
